“A Scanner Darkly” is one of the productions computer animation fans have been looking forward to most in recent years.
The film is intended to demonstrate that other forms of digital animation, aesthetically far removed from the model established by Pixar, Dreamworks and other 3D giants, can be created for an adult film loving public.
Based on one of the darkest and most personal novels by the legendary science fiction writer Phillip K. Dick, “A Scanner Darkly” takes the rotoscope technique to new limits. It is used to film real actors – in this case, stars such as Keanu Reeves, Wynona Ryder and Robert Downey Jr – and later “transform” them into animated characters.
Tommy Pallota, the producer of the film, will introduce this special showing.
