Last year, Philips stunned us with the short film Carousel. Now Philips Cinema is releasing a new campaign: Parallel lines. The video is a teaser film for the upcoming campaign, which will launch at April 7th. Philips invited five directors from the Ridley Scott Association to create five short films in different genres: drama, action, animation, science fiction and thriller.
Before the premiere of the films, Fans of Philips Cinemas Facebookpage will get an exclusive pre-release screening of one the 5 films. Up until then, Philips is building up the campaign at their Facebook page. By becoming a fan people can get access to insight information, behind the scenes insights and clues for hidden scenes.
Characteristic in experiencing the cinematic feature of the Philips Cinema 21:9 televisions, is the ‘Ambiplayer’; the online media player that allows viewers to switch between cinematic and wide screen and to turn the Ambilight feature on or off.

Flyfire, a project initiated by the SENSEable City Laboratory in collaboration with ARES Lab (Aerospace Robotics and Embedded Systems Laboratory) aims to transform any ordinary space into a highly immersive and interactive display environment.
Flyfire serves as an initial step to explore and imagine the possibilities of this free-form display: a swarm of pixels in a space.
Wwwhat´s new? el excelente blog que recoge las últimas aplicaciones web gratuitas, nos presenta Bitspace.at “una nueva forma de guardar, organizar y escuchar música directamente desde Internet. Con varios sistemas de clasificación (por tema, año, artista, etc) ofrece un ambiente muy sencillo de usar y 500 megas de espacio en su plan gratuito, que sólo está abierto por invitación.”
A MAZE es algo más que un festival, es una plataforma y serie de eventos que se realizen en la búsqueda de la convergencia entre arte y videojuegos. Desde el 2008 que han organizado fiestas, exposiciones y competiciones, pero su evento más importante ha sido el festival A MAZE.Interact que a su vez fue integrado dentro del festival ClubTransmediale (el festival hermano de la Transmediale dedicado a la música) a finales de enero y principios de febrero de 2010 en Berlín.
El A MAZE.Interact ha explorado la creciente relación entre los videojuegos y la música desde diversas perspectivas, a través de exposiciones, talleres, instalaciones, charlas y conciertos. Entre las cosas más interesantes, dos propuestas de españoles: la instalación Dialogues de Servando Barreiro que consiste en una “guerra de sexos” a través del ruido y dos espejos en dos lavabos para chicos y chicas; y el concierto Atari Cold War Show del netlabel madrileño ++addsensor, un viaje al pasado donde el Este y el Oeste estaban divididos por un subsconciente colectivo.
La exposición y parte del festival prometen ser itinerantes. Esperamos ver que nuevo evento nos proponen desde A MAZE. No defraudará.
Dentro de las actvidades del Mobile World Congress de Barcelona se presentó la aplicación de la revista WIRED dirigida a leer la revista con el nuevo dispositivo de Apple. Las imágenes lo dicen todo.
Cuando en el siglo XIX el ingeniero eléctrico Nikola Tesla inventó su bobina de transformación resonante no imaginó que 100 años más tarde los centellos de electricidad surgiendo de su invento iban a atraer a 500 personas a un auditorio para ver como durante 30 minutos dos artistas creaban una espectáculo audiovisual con la bobina como protagonista.
Esto es lo que han conseguido el estudioartificiel con su último proyecto POWEr, que presentaron en Europa por primera vez en el festival Transmediale, hace 15 días. Una combinación de arcos eléctricos y reinterpretación digital que te hacía poner los pelos de punta, especialmente si te encontrabas en las primeras filas cerca de la bobina.

This remarkable scene combines multiple exposures recorded on the evening of January 18th from a waterside perspective in Hong Kong, China. It follows a young crescent Moon, with brilliant planet Jupiter to its left, as they set together in the western sky. But easier to pick out are the short, bright airplane trails converging toward the horizon and the Hong Kong International Airport that seem to offer a frenzied imitation of the celestial tracks.
Gijón se está convirtiendo en una de las ciudades de referencia para el arte más actual. El pasado mes de enero la ciudad acogió la programación del último festival de ArtFutura y LABoral Centro de arte no deja de sorprender con exposiciones y actividades como éstas. El pasado jueves, un espacio llamado El Hervidero, situado en el centro de la ciudad y dentro del contexto de la Galería Espacio Líquido, inauguró la última muestra de Andy Gracie, un artista que lleva diez años trabajando en torno a las conexiones entre la tecnología y el mundo natural, entre lo natural y lo sintético.
Esta exposición presenta obras creadas, en su mayoría, en los últimos doce meses continuando investigaciones recientes llevadas a cabo por el artista en torno a la exploración espacial y la ciencia biológica relacionada con ésta, los aparatos en uso en este área, la metodología de investigación y el significado resultante.
José Luis de Vicente publica un artículo sobre Culturas del Cambio, una exposición del Centro Arts Santa Mónica: “Cincuenta años después de que C.P. Snow pronunciase su famoso discurso en el que reclamaba que se derribasen las barreras que separan a las ciencias empíricas de las humanidades, la presencia de los discursos de la ciencia en los centros de arte españoles sigue siendo testimonial. Las fronteras siguen firmemente establecidas al menos en la articulación de las instituciones, y en las cabezas de la mayoría de sus responsables.”

“Cómo ganar dinero en un mundo perfectamente copiable” es el título de un brillante artículo de Javier Candeira en plena web de RTVE. Transcribimos:
“Entre las acusaciones mutuas de ‘piratas’ y ‘ladrones’, resulta difícil encontrar argumentos que, como el reciente manifiesto en defensa de los derechos fundamentales en Internet, propongan un derecho de autor equilibrado y favorezcan a la sociedad en su conjunto a la vez que reconocen la importancia de los creadores profesionales en la formación de un imaginario común.
…El dique se derrumba, es cierto. Pero no el dique de la cultura, sino el de los modelos añejos de las industrias editoriales de la cultura. Los nuevos modelos pueden suponer otras hecatombes distintas de las que citaba al principio de este mensaje: la desaparición del negocio de la música grabada, por ejemplo. El mundo de la edición literaria ya está sufriendo grandemente, y el paso al digital puede hacer que desaparezcan los sueldos (que no los trabajos) de muchas personas, no sólo autores sino editores, correctores, diseñadores, impresores… Otros intermediarios perecerán en los cambios a una industria cultural que viva en la abundancia de copias en vez de en la escasez. Pero sigue habiendo lugar para los creadores.”
Auténticamente magistral, el artículo completo merece una lectura en profundidad.
Y para acabar la lista de cortos de animación seleccionados para el próximo Oscar (lamentamos no incluir “Partly Cloudy” de PIXAR, que no está disponible en YouTube), aquí va ésta pequeña joya: “The Cat Piano” de People’s Republic of Animation, dirigida por Eddie White y Ari Gibson y con voz del músico Nick Cave. Grandiosa.
La robótica también hace su entrada en Art Basel Miami Beach 2009. En la edición inaugurada ayer mismo se mostraron estas tres cabezas robóticas del artista Nathaniel Mellor al módico precio de 75.000 Dólares USA. Interesante, pero su acabado nos parece a años luz de distancia del robot “Julio” creado por HansonRobotics y David Byrne para la exposición “Máquinas&Almas”.
“French Roast” de Fabrice O. Joubert, es otra de las obras seleccionadas para las nominaciones a los Oscar. Aquí está el trailer.
