8 BIT is a hybrid documentary that examines the influence of videogames in contemporary culture. A mixture of documentary, “art exposé” and critical investigation. 8 BIT outlines the union between a diversity of cultural elements such as the “demos” scene of the 80s, “chiptune” music and contemporary artists who use “machinima” and modified games.

Demos + Intros

BCN Party offers a monographic selection of the most outstanding recent pieces produced on the "Demoscene". Images, synchronized sounds and large doses of imagination and technical skill characterize the works of this underground digital culture that is completely European. The digital image in motion understood as urban culture.

Demos are programs of a size superior to 64 Kbytes which include effects, graphics and music. Intros are similar to demos, but with an important limitation of space: between 4 and 64 Kbytes. Recently, technological advances have brought us computers that are faster, more memory, more powerful graphic processors and hardware with 3D acceleration. Having lost a lot of the challenges from the past, the focus of the demos has shifted to the creation of art in real time which is well designed and which has style.

PodLove

PodLove includes five episodes produced in Australia by the Australian Film Commission and SBS Independent. They are five stories, each five minutes long directed by different authors and teams and produced by Beth Frey from Circe Films. PodLove explores the effect of digital communication in relationships between couples, friends and complete strangers.

The story titled “Our Brilliant Second Life” particularly stands out. It contains reference to the virtual universe of Second Life and how two real people (Blair and Diana) meet in a virtual world and the impact that it has on their lives.
